MUJIK (ARGENTINA) LIVE
1ST APPEARANCE IN FRANCE ! JULY 28TH J
www.myspace.com/mujik ULY

THIS IS MUJIK an electro sound with a unique fusion of dark, dirty electronics and emotional synth-pop that combined a strong industrial influence and very intimate lyrics. He is the head and the voice of Mujik; however, includes guest musicians in studio and live shows.

Live appearances in Buenos Aires included clubs, festivals and other music events. And in 2003, Mujik started touring through Europe.
Back in Buenos Aires, the “Electro & Glitz Star” compilation (Cosa Mostra Records) was released, with two tracks from Mujik: Get Started and You!, this last track in collaboration with Shemale.

In 2004, Mujik released his first EP - “Illectric City Ep” - with London based label Delta-b recordings. Great acceptance and support came directly from DJ’s and producers like DJ Hell (GER), Tiga (CAN), Erol Alkan (UK), Tiefschwarz (GER), Diego Ro-k (ARG), DJs from nagnagnag (UK), Marc Almond (ex Soft Cell, UK), Angel Molina (SPN), Mark Moore (UK), Tom Middelton (UK), Ricard&Iu (Zen Club-BCN), and Robert X (Moog-BCN).

That same year, Mujik faced two tours in Europe: “Illectric Cities Tour”, appearing at clubs in Spain, Germany and England; this last destination took Mujik a step further, placing it as the first electronic band from Argentina to tour – live – in the UK.

In 2005, Mujik released a new record with Delta-b recordings (UK) - “Perfect Empty” - that includes remixes by Punx Soundcheck (UK) and seven remixes by Argentinean artists, featuring a special promotional CD together with the vinyl. The “Perfect Empty (original mix)” was included on the famous “Electric Pop 4” compilation [MOFA (Ger)]. Also the same year “Lucrecia my Reflection”
(cover version from Sisters of Mercy) was included on the Arc - Moog compilation (Barcelona) and “Girls, girls, girls” (cover version from Motley Crue) on the Copyright Destroyers compilation (Argentina).

Together with the record came the “Perfect Empty Tour” with live shows in Spain, Germany, UK, Hungary, and Chile.

For the 2006 mujik’s plans include, the realese of a new record, “Stripped” Ep with the berlin based label Electrobot. For this record mujik got more into his unique sound of electro rock, probably the obvious step forward for him. In this 7 track record appears; Marie Gutierrez again backing vocals, Andres Alberti on guitars and it was co-produced with Paulo Agostinelli (aka S7g).

INTERVIEW :

Hello Mujik, welcome to decadent cocktail ! First Question : How’s the argentinean electro scene like ? Is this style growing popular there ?

Hello Danton!...thanx!
Well….the electro scene here is still growing and growing. Strange as in lot of cities looks like is not and  the minimal scene is taking control. Sometimes also here.
But I think that the people that really like to rock and get crazy and have fun is into electro.
For sure the most popular argentinian electro bands are mujik, capri and modex. Though I don’t  think that any is doing so strong in Europe as Mujik. Of course there is some cool new argentinian bands as modex though sometimes in BA could be hard to play live after a fire that happened more that 1 year ago. By all means worth to keep on eye in the Argentinian scene.
Still there is some very cool djs that play mostly electro. Like Diego Ro-k. My favourite dj in Argentina. Actually he is the dj that made the mix for the  “my trash melodies compilation #1”. For the label that I’m putting out together with the modex’ guys. With the label (www.mytrashmelodies.com.ar)  I’m trying to help out the scene to keep on growing in Argentina . As nobody was doing anything for it….well I feel that I have to do something about it………and who would be best for it?

Your story is pretty crazy. How did you contact clubs in Europe for your first tour ?

Yeah, its’ kinda crazy. ‘Cos in the 2002 it was my very first time doing music by myself. Mujik is my very first solo project actually. Though I have guest musicians for the records and live show, the mujik’s live crew.
Anyway in the 2002 I was in Buenos Aires playing electro. Kinda dark electro. And here nobody was paying attention to this music. Only a few. So I started to send some of my music to musicians and labels in europe. And the response was quite opposite than in Argentina. Even more, one of my best friend that was living in Barcelona (nowadays he is on the mujik’s live crew) that I consider probably the best musician I ever met, told me “this is the best music that I heard lately!, you have to come to play in Barcelona!, I’ll fix you the gigs!”
This was in the 2003 and this is how I started my career out of Argentina.
At the same time I got in contact with Simon Acetone (delta-b) and we met at the Sonar and after my first gig in Europe, he signed me in for DB. Actually I’ve just realized that he was at my first gig in Europe. Funny!.
After the first record with Delta-b, “Illectric City Ep” getting supported directly from Dj Hell, Tiga, Tiefschwarz, Tom Middelton, Marc Almond, Erol Alkan, among others,  came the 2nd, the 3rd, 4th, 5th tours in Europe……and now the 6th .
And of course more records. 1 simple and 1 Ep with delta-b. 1 Ep with electrobot. And some remix for Punx soundcheck, monosurround, tetsuo, dirty princess…….

By the way, I’m honored to host your first France appearance ! I hope it won’t be the last one.

Trust me, the honour is mine. I’m really big fan of you, Danton and I was really looking forward to get to France for quite a while now. And I know this a big opportunity. And I know this wont’ be our last time in France.
Specially if you are talking about such a cool night as DC!, you will have danton eeprom , acetone and mujik. All in the same night.
Cool line up! Well done man!
I promise you a really wild nite!!!

Your Berlin and London experiences were quite an electroshock to you. What did you feel there ?

Oh, Yeah!
The first time that I played in London was pretty shocky and strange. You have to know that to play in London was like my teenage dream. So much music’s history in London… In BA London is almost a myth. So it makes it special somehow.  And it’s even more special if you are becaming the first Argentinian electronic band to tour in the UK. Like becaming a question of a trivia for your children: “which was the first argentinian electronic band touring in the UK?. 5 letters…”..jajajaj. When we got to the airport we realized with Paulo about all this.
Berlin was my 3rd tour in Europe. We flew from London the same day of  the show. It was like getting to the airport in Berlin at 10 pm. Direct to the sound check, dinner, show, relax for 2 hours and back to the airport. This show in Berlin at Rafgier (one of the coolest party I ever went) was probably the best mujik’s show so far. The people went crazy. And I can’t believe they still remember our show after 2 years. Last winter the people were still talking to me about that show. It was crazy and less than 10 hours in the city.

What’s in Argentina parties you didn’t find in Europe ?

The hottest chicks ever!.
Probably the most beautiful girls in the whole world and LOTS of them! Oh, YEAH!!!!!

First synth ?

Wow! Long time ago. It was an Ensoniq EPS16 plus. Actually not a synth. A sampler. 2mb sampler. You had to used all the files in a very low sample rate…jajaj…
It was very cool! Cos it has sequencer. Some synths. Some built in Fx’ and very cool filters. So you can do a lot of things with it. Even songs just with it.
I MISS IT!

Last drink ?

Let me think. Last Sunday was……
Fernet branca with Coca Cola for going out but first in the afternoon was Jack Daniel’s for a short recording session.
Btw….. I did put them on my rider for the party….right?

Hey, you’re a big fan of Mate (very popular south american soft drink). I’ll try to find some when you come over, so you feel like home, ok ?

Well yes!...I’m addicted to mate. My strongest addiction. This and chicks. I can’t help it.  :-P
I drink mate maybe 4-5 times a day. I think mate is an Argentinian drink actually. It’s a very strong drink that wakes you up and helps you out with the digestion. The best partner for long nites in the studio.
And don’t worry. I always carry all the equipment for the mate with me. I can forget to bring a keyboard, the laptop maybe….but never the mate.
So everybody that it’s interested in this drink. Just come over to Danton’s studio on the week of the party and we will drink some mate. Could get kinda hippie sometimes…….dahj…jajajjaj
Thanx anyway

Did Myspace change your life ?

Oh yeah!...a lot!....you would not believe how much…….

No, I mean : seriously.

Well it’s a very cool way to contact other musician directly. You know. Specially when you are far away. And it’s a very cool and easy way to show your music around for free. And also you can send a messages or post directly to some of your favourite band without getting into their website. Easy and fast.
On the other hand everybody is getting soooooo  dammed connected that sometimes make me sick.

Really ? I can’t believe it.

Oh, yeah….what do you think?...did it change your life too?

Not really. Anyway you’re going to be away from internet for a while, touring Europe for a few monthes.. What parties are you going to rock ?

As usual I’m starting in Barcelona at the Zen Club and also we will be rocking in London (nagnagnag, Yo!Suzi), of course decandent cocktail, Munich (electrotation), Berlin, Madrid, Valencia, Alicante and more cities in Spain. Also planning to rock in some more cities in Germany and Russia. It’s gonna be really like going from city to city till December. And hopefully coming back to France over and over again. I won’t stop till I’ll get the control of the French scene…..

Are you planning to rock with planningtorock ?

mmm... what ?

Forget it. What’s going to be the flavour of your Decadent Cocktail set ?

As usual and as the people like to say…. It’s gonna be wild and get ready for some mayhem.
Nowadays the mujik’s music and show are really into the electro punk rock. Very strong or at least this is what the people keep on saying.  What do you think? You heard the mujik’s records…..
anyway you can check out for some live show’s videos and music at my website (www.mujikonline.com.ar) or at myspace (www.myspace.com/mujik) . Now you can see how much myspace changed our lives.

Are you also a Dj ?

Mmmmhh…..well…a dj?...not so sure about that. There is so many good djs around that well….sometimes is embarrassing when I play as a dj. I do dj….but well…I’m first of all  a musician …….that became a dj as lot of people asked me to play as a dj. Probably all the way around that in the most of the cases…right?
But hey!...the people like me to play also as a dj……so I will keep on doing it. In fact I will play dj sets for this tour too.
I have a really good time playing  as a dj too. Though my best times are playing live on stage.

Simon Acetone is going to rock the party with us. Have you already performed with him ?

Yeah! Of course!. We played in London and in Berlin together a couple of years ago. And we did really get lot of fun! I love him playing. You know….always a surprise. I wish we could play more frequently together.
And this is will be our first time together. And I know that thi won’t be the last……right?.. Germany and maybe Spain and again France  will be our future together…..

What’s your top ten songs at the moment ?

You just caught me in a very strange mood…..
Let’s put it as song or records.
-Monosurround – Crocked, Locked, ready to rock!
-She wants revenge – She wants revenge (record)
-Codec & Flexor – Killermachine (record)
-Atomizer – Violence of the last goodbye
-GD Luxxe – Between Zero and Eternity (record)
-The Cure – Join the dots (record)
- Bauhaus – 1979/1983 (record)

Your favorite french producer ?

I’m between Danton Eeprom and Black Strobe. Really!

And last but not least, what’s your favorite cocktail ?

I’m clasic and sorry it’s not a cocktail.
Fernet Branca with Coca Cola …
Or Jack Daniel’s

Thanks Mujik, looking forward to see you. Bienvenue en France !

Gracias. Estoy muy ansioso y feliz por tocar en Francia. Espero q realmente disfruten del show.

Decadent cocktail interview

** How did you start producing music? Your influences and inspirations?

I first started making music on my Commodore Amiga when I was a teenager, and part of my university course was Music Technology which taught me the basics of using a studio. It’s only for the last few years that music production has become more important – I was first a DJ

Influences: Prince, Human League, The Beatles, Blondie, The Clash, Primal Scream, New Order, Kraftwerk, Spacemen 3, Talking Heads, International DJ Gigolo records
Inspirations: 80s pop, old school electro, lots of rock n roll, and of course all good house and techno!

**What's the story behind your label Delta B and your connection with the Berlin scene?

Delta B aims to help electro artists from around the world realise their childhood dreams of being pop stars... Or something like that!

The connection with Berlin is almost accidental – our sound was quite similar to the Berlin sound, so I visited the city to see what was happening, got to spin at some little parties and ended up being invited back to play at some of the best clubs in town

** Berlin / London : as far as the electro scene is concerned, what are the main differences between these cities ? Similarities ?

Berlin is more specialised in electro than London – here we have a wide variety of music scenes of which electro is just one, where as in Berlin it is the main thing

**Your label features many artists from different countries.. What about your artist Mujik from Argentina ? How did you hear their music and decided to release their stuff ? They now have a nice underground buzz all over Europe.

Electro is a very international sound, so releasing the best music by artists from around the world makes sense. I first contacted Mujik over the internet (years before myspace!), then we hung out in Barcelona when they were playing there. I really liked what they were doing and thought their music needed to be heard by more people. The next thing we know they’re being played by DJ Hell, Tom Middleton, Larry Tee and all the rest !

**What does Simon Acetone want to share with the audience? besides beers and cigarettes ?

A good time, entertaining them with the best dancefloor electro money can buy

**When a sassy girl in high heels comes to the dj booth while you're spinning and whispers in your ear " I love the music, darling", do you get an instant hard-on ?

Of course! Seriously though, one of the most important rules of Djing is that if you can get the pretty girls dancing then you will have no problem getting the party rocking

**Where do you see yourself at the electro scene? Are you close to Punx Soundcheck, with a political and philosophical approach, or just a one night stand electro journey? -which is good too, no wonder-

Punx Soundcheck are good friends of mine. They are the best UK electro producers right now, and we share the same international attitude –I’ve travelled with John Punx to spin a few times, a good one was when we played together at a festival in Portugal on an outdoor stage to over 2000 people

** Wasted backstage. Does that ring a bell ?

Who, me?!?! After the show of course !

** Hungover at the airport. How about that?

I remember that time we played together in Club Maria in Berlin, falling out the club drunk at 9Am and going straight to airport. I was suprised they let me on the plane that day!!

**You're pretty well known as a good remixer in London. Which artist did you enjoy workin on ? Do you like the art of remixing ?

The biggest honour was being asked by Mark Moore to remix ‘Theme from S-Express’ – dance tracks don’t get much more legendary than that !! I enjoy doing remixes because you do not have the problem of starting with ‘the blank canvas’, you are given something to work with which you can put your own sound onto

**Will you release an LP soon?

Sometime…soon ! I have a vision for an album, with many ideas stored up, so this will happen for sure.

** Need some more coffee ?

How about a nice cup of tea?

**What currently are you listening and playing? Top ten-it for me please.

Oliver Huntemann – Fieber LP
Justice – Waters of Nazereth
Zombie Nation – Money Talks
Sharon Philips – Want 2 / Need 2 (Trentmoller mix)
Metope – Secon skin (Tekel mix)
Test Icicles – What your damage (Alan Braxe and Fred Flake mix)
Royksopp - Beautiful Day Without You (Rex the Dog mix)
Alex Parsons and Tommy Four Seven – Choclate makes your clothes shrink
Madonna – Confession on Dancefloor LP
Babyshambles – Down in Albion LP

**What do you think about the general electro scene and music’s progression?

The electro scene goes from strength to strength – after the first wave of electroclash the media said electro was dead, but they were very wrong. The music just evolved and got more popular.

**What about your far future plans about music and production?

More tracks, more remixes, more Djing... what else is there?!

**Get a real job. How does that sound?

Not good, electrotrash and the 9 to 5 don’t mix that well

**What about Marseille ? What do you know about France and Marseille? Do you think it's such a smart idea to do a party with a crazy fuck named Danton Eeprom ? A party called "Decadent cocktail" on top of that ?

I’ve never been to Marseille before, but I love visiting France. I’ve heard people in Marseille like to dance, so lets get things rocking… I’ve partied with you a few times before Danton, so I’m not afraid!

** Thanx mate, see you on May 6th !

Looking forward to it, mine’s a Singapore Sling please.
